Ryan A. Tolkin is Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer of Schonfeld. He also serves as the Chair of the Executive Committee and as the Chair of the Global Investment Committee.
Under Ryan’s leadership, Schonfeld evolved from a U.S.-centric family office to a global multi-strategy, multi-manager hedge fund. He spearheaded the firm becoming a registered investment advisor in 2016. He also led Schonfeld’s international expansion with the joint venture of Folger Hill Asia and the expansion of Schonfeld’s global footprint with office openings in Miami, London, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, and Dubai.
Complementing the firm’s deep expertise in quantitative investing, tactical trading, and fundamental equities, Ryan further diversified Schonfeld’s core strategies by launching a discretionary macro and fixed income business in 2022 and delta one and emerging markets businesses in 2023.
In 2024, Ryan was appointed to the board of directors of DUMAC, which manages Duke University’s endowment, defined benefit pension plan assets and Duke University Health System’s investments.
Prior to joining Schonfeld in 2013, Ryan was a Vice President on the Corporate Credit Trading desk at Goldman Sachs where he was responsible for managing the Energy/Utilities and REITs portfolios. Ryan received a BA in Economics from Duke University and graduated with Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude honors. He started his career at Schonfeld as a high school intern.
